Guillermo is a writer of drama, fiction, and film; a director, dramaturge, and actor whose work has been seen and heard on stages, screens, and radios across the country and around the globe. The author, or co-author, of, among other works,
The Noam Chomsky Lectures and Insomnia (with Daniel Brooks),
Fronteras Americanas, The Terrible but Incomplete Journals of John
D., and A Line in the Sand (with Marcus Youssef), he is a recipient of the Governor General's Award for Drama, a four-time winner of the Chalmers Canadian Play Award, a recipient of Dora and Jessie Awards, and sundry film festival awards for his film
Crucero/Crossroads made with Ramiro Puerta. His critically-acclaimed collection of short fiction,
Citizen Suárez, is published by Talonbooks. He is also the writer of a documentary about the personal and social uses of photography entitled
camera lucida for CBC Radio's Ideas.
He is Artistic Director of Cahoots Theatre Projects, a Toronto-based company committed to creating, developing, and producing work that reflects Canada's cultural diversity. Next season, Guillermo will direct Rahul Varma's play
Bhopal, based on the 1984 industrial disaster in India. He will also direct
The Adventures of Ali and Ali and the Axes of Evil, co-created with Vancouver's Marcus Youssef and Camyar
Chai.
He recently directed In The Freedom of Dreams for LKTYP, formerly Young People's Theatre, in Toronto and prior to that was seen in the Tarragon production of Daniel Brooks's
The Good Life. His upcoming projects include bloom. in thy spite -- a collaboration with Soheil Parsa and
Modern Times, in the fall of 2003; and a new(ish) version of Euripides's
Bacchae with Daniel Brooks.

JOVANNI SY - Assistant Director
Jovanni Sy is a Toronto-based actor, singer, and playwright. He has acted with Theatre Passe
Muraille, Tarragon Theatre, the Grand Theatre (London), The Citadel (Edmonton), The Banff
Centre, Theatre Junction (Calgary), Globe Theatre (Regina), and Nakai Theatre (Whitehorse). Among his numerous film and television credits are regular roles on two CBC
series—Riverdale and Side Effects. As a singer, he created the role of “Ah Lum” in the world premiere of Tapestry New Opera Works’ Iron
Road. He appeared in Autumn Leaf Performance’s The Anxiety Of Immortality in Toronto and Vancouver and as “Fenris” in R. Murray Schafer’s
The Enchanted Forest in Peterborough.
His writing credits include Song of Songs (Bravo! Television) and Peking Duck, a one-act play for Alumnae Theatre which he later adapted for CBC Radio Drama. He is a former Playwright-in-Residence at Cahoots Theatre Projects and a former Artist-in-Residence at Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal. He is a member of Factory Theatre’s Playwrights’ Lab where his play,
43 Harsh Regulations, is being developed. He also wrote the libretti to two chamber
operas—Haiku Moments and The Cellar Door—which premiered in Toronto in April 2002.
Jovanni is completing his term as a Dramaturgy Intern at Factory Theatre courtesy of a Chalmers Foundation Fellowship. This summer he returns to the boards in CanStage’s
Twelfth Night in High Park.
CHARISSA WILCOX - Production Manager
Charissa has been the production manager for Buddies in Bad Times Theatre for the last two years. Some of her other P.M. credits include
SummerWorks and The Danish Play. This is her first show with Carlos Bulosan Theatre and she’s excited to be working with everyone involved. She would thank Mariko Tamaki for love and support.
SARAH DALGLEISH - Stage Manager
Sarah Dalgleish has worked professionally in Toronto over the past seven years. Her endeavours include; lighting technician, space technician (Tarragon Extra Space and Factory Studio), general manager and Co-Founder of Theatre Ephemera, production manager
(Ota - Theatre Ephemera), lighting designer (Choreographic Workshop - School of Toronto Dance Theatre), assistant stage manager
(Two Words For Snow - Volcano) and most recently stage manager (The Exit Room - Theatre Gargantua and
JOB: The Hip Hop Musical - Tarragon Theatre).
Upcoming for Sarah is a fun filled summer at The Blyth Festival as an assistant stage manager and her annual participation in the Senior’s Jubilee at Roy Thompson Hall.
JENNIE GREEN - Costume Designer
Jennie designed costumes for the original workshop production of Miss Orient(ed) and is delighted to be working on the show again. Jennie worked her way through University in the wardrobe departments of St. Lawrence University, NY and the Graduate Centre for the Study of Drama at the University of Toronto. Design credits include costumes for
Crave at the Glen Morris Studio Theatre, Hair and Makeup for
Aminta at the Robert Gill Theatre. Jennie spent last summer stage managing a four month tour of the Canadian Fringe Festival circuit with
The Disappearance of Janey Jones. Her stage managing credits include
Christmas at the Ivanovs at the Robert Gill Theatre, and Assistant Stage Manager for the UK premiere of
Lebensraum at the Kings Head Theatre in London. Jennie spent several seasons in Eastern Ontario as Publicist at the Upper Canada Playhouse, was Managing Director for Welcome Wood Productions with The Regent Theatre in Picton, The Weave Shed Arts Centre in Cornwall and helped to re-open The Princess Court Theatre in Kingston. She freelances as an arts administrator for independent artists and is currently the General Manager for Kaeja d'Dance.

A graduate of Queen's University, Natalie McCusker is the co-founder of an event marketing company with a focus on brand development. Events she has designed and produced include: Skate Canada 2002,
WIFT-T (Women in Film and Television-Toronto) Crystal Awards 2001, CH Television Launch 2001 and PrideVision TV Launch 2001. She recently completed a contract as Director of Marketing with
PrideVision TV. Natalie is excited to be a part of the creative branding for Miss
Orient(ed).
